Ukraine leading humanitarian at Buckingham Palace reception

One of Christian Aid’s main Ukraine partners is taking part in a royal reception for humanitarians at Buckingham Palace tomorrow evening (Wednesday November 8th).

King Charles has asked to meet international humanitarians at the event he is hosting in recognition of the UK’s exceptional contribution to relief work, including the 60th anniversary of the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC).

Christian Aid is delighted to share the occasion with one of its local partners, Dr Slava Kushakov, one of the founders of Alliance for Public Health (APH). He has come from Kyiv to be at the reception.

Dr Slava Kushakov said: “I’m honoured to be invited to the royal reception and looking forward to meeting my counterparts from around the world. What unites us is that we are all trying to help people in the most challenging conditions.”

APH supports some of the most marginalised communities in Ukrainian society, including people who use drugs. This work has expanded to a wide range of humanitarian activities such as mobile medical teams operating in frontline de-occupied zones.

Christian Aid has been funding and working alongside its local partners in Ukraine and neighbouring countries since Russia’s full-scale invasion in February last year.

Dr Kushakov added: “Sadly we Ukrainians are facing another difficult winter with Russia renewing its missile barrages on critical civil infrastructure. We are deeply grateful for all the support we receive from people in the UK and pray that support will continue.”
