Al Jaber’s Trump-like climate denial belongs in the stone age, Christian Aid says

Responding to the fallout at the UN climate summit after the COP28 President, Sultan Al Jaber, claimed there is “no science” indicating that a phase-out of fossil fuels is needed to restrict global heating to 1.5C and warned it would “take the world back into caves”, Christian Aid’s Global Advocacy Lead Mariana Paoli said:

“It is so far beyond the pale to suggest there is 'no science' indicating phasing out fossil fuels is needed to restrict global heating and the deadliest effects of the climate crisis. To deny the science is straight out of the Donald Trump playbook. This climate denial belongs to the stone age.

“Unless world leaders agree to phase out fossil fuels and fast, the world will continue to slide towards catastrophe. You don’t need to explain that to many of the world’s poorest communities facing increasing levels of flooding, drought, heatwaves, and more.

“It’s time to finally agree to end the fossil fuel era, invest rapidly in renewable energy, and support a just transition in line with principles of climate justice. All eyes are on leaders at COP28 to deliver this.”
