“New words, not new policy”, Christian Aid responds to UK Govt ceasefire statement

Responding to the Foreign Secretary’s intervention in a Sunday Times article in which he calls for a "sustainable ceasefire" but stops short of calling for an immediate ceasefire, Christian Aid’s Head of Middle East Policy and Advocacy William Bell said:

“With our partners reporting the health sector in Gaza is on the verge of collapse and unable to cope with the soaring numbers of casualties and fatalities, Christian Aid is calling for a permanent and urgent ceasefire.

“But what we have from the Foreign Secretary is new words, not new policy. Civilians in Gaza fearing for their lives need more than a tonal shift.

“A permanent and urgent ceasefire is the only serious option to stop further loss of civilian life and allow for a safe and effective humanitarian response at the scale needed to address people’s needs.”
