New and additional aid needed to alleviate Ethiopia's humanitarian crisis

Ahead of a high-level pledging conference in Geneva (16 April), the UK Government is being urged to pledge new and additional funding to alleviate Ethiopia's humanitarian crisis. Christian Aid’s Crisis Contexts Lead, Asha Kurien, said:

“As a result of repeated climate shocks and conflict, millions of Ethiopians are facing the threat of severe hunger and death. From the worst drought in 40 years to torrential rain and the risk of floods, it is only predicted to get worse.

“While we welcome the UK’s leadership in co-hosting this conference, it must come hand in hand with funding that is new and additional to the £100 million announced in February. We have a responsibility to remove barriers to local partners’ access to aid and ensure support goes directly into the hands of the worst hit communities.”
