Human Rights Award for Christian Aid's Palestinian and Israeli partners

Palestinian and Israeli human rights groups Al-Haq and B’Tselem – two partners of Christian Aid – have received the 2018 Human Rights Prize of the French Republic, having fought tirelessly for justice and the end to the Israeli occupation.

This year’s prize is awarded to organisations that are being harassed or pressured for defending and promoting human rights.

Christian Aid’s Head of Middle East Policy and Advocacy, William Bell, said: “We are so proud to support these two organisations who recognise that accountability and the rule of law lie at the heart of a just peace.”

Christian Aid is working with more than 15 Israeli and Palestinian organisations to tackle poverty, provide community resilience and build peace across the West Bank and the Gaza strip. The organisation supports partners like Al-Haq and B'Tselem to monitor human rights violations, whoever the perpetrator, and to protect those who defend rights.

Christian Aid last week launched a new report, ‘Resourcing war and peace: time to address the UK Government’s double standards’, as part of its ‘Be A Peacemaker’ Christmas appeal.
