Patrick Watt Appointed as Interim CEO of Christian Aid

International development charity Christian Aid has appointed its Director of Policy, Public Affairs and Campaigns, Patrick Watt, as Interim Chief Executive until the role is recruited on a permanent basis.

Patrick joined Christian Aid in 2019, taking the lead on the organisation’s influencing, evidence and mobilisation strategy in the UK and internationally across a range of issues including economic and climate justice.

Patrick has vast experience within the third sector. He previously worked for Oxfam, Action Aid, and Save the Children on issues of education, global health, debt and trade, and aid policy. He has degrees in Theology from the University of Cambridge and in Development Studies from the London School of Economics.

Outgoing Chief Executive, Amanda Khozi Mukwashi, said:

"Christian Aid has been on an incredible journey and we are now stronger as One Christian Aid in reaching those most in need, tackling its root causes and helping build people’s agency.

“Though I will no longer be leading Christian Aid, I am confident that I leave a strong organisation that is well-placed to tackle poverty, and the injustices that perpetuate it.”

Incoming interim Chief Executive, Patrick Watt said:

“All of us at Christian Aid thank Amanda for her immense contribution and for leaving the organisation in good health. We wish her the very best in her new role at the United Nations.

“I look forward over this interim period to leading Christian Aid in our unwavering work to end poverty, and promote dignity, equality and justice for all people.

“Across the countries in which we work, the triple impact of COVID, the climate crisis, and conflict means that lasting change is needed now more than ever. Working alongside passionate and dedicated staff and partners, and backed by our supporters, I believe we can rise to that challenge”
