Countries to stop wasting taxpayers money on overseas fossil fuels - welcomed by Christian Aid

Responding to the announcement at COP26 that more than 20 countries will be ending overseas fossil fuel financing by the end of 2022, Dr Kat Kramer, Christian Aid's climate policy lead, said:

"Today's announcement sends a strong signal to markets that the fossil fuels era is coming to an end, and that money invested now in fossil infrastructure is money down the drain.

"It is very significant that this announcement covers, for the first time, a group of countries deciding to no longer waste taxpayers' money to fund the climate crisis through 'investments' in coal, oil and gas overseas.

"While the UK has been a leader on ending fossil finance overseas, it needs to clean up its act on fossil production at home. There is no space for new oil fields, and the contemplation of a new coal mine is an utter disgrace."
