Responding to the news that climate scientist Piers Forster has been appointed the interim Chair of the Climate Change Committee, Jennifer Larbie, Christian Aid’s Head of Global Advocacy, said:
“It’s great to see a climate scientist with as much stature as Piers Forster appointed to this interim role ahead of the latest progress report published by the CCC next week.
“The response to climate change needs to be guided by science. It is clear that the Government is not moving fast enough to decarbonise our economy and provide support for people living on the front lines of the climate crisis.
“With droughts, storms and other extreme weather getting worse around the world, people who have done the least to cause climate breakdown need nations with high historic emissions like the UK, to accelerate the energy transition.”
