Christian Aid strongly welcomes DFID announcement backing aid organisations and development work in the event of ‘no deal’ Brexit

Christian Aid today welcomes the announcement by the Department for International Development (DFID) that it will cover funds for international development and aid in the event of a block on EU funding, saying that this decision would ensure the poorest people would not suffer a sudden loss of life-saving development funding.

Amanda Mukwashi, Chief Executive of Christian Aid, said:
“We strongly welcome today’s announcement by Penny Mordaunt. Brexit is creating many uncertainties, but one thing must remain certain: that the UK will do all it can to make sure the world’s poorest do not suffer as a result. Today’s announcement will mean UK charities can continue to deliver life-saving development and humanitarian work in some of the poorest communities around the world.

“We hope that both the UK and EU continue to pursue strong and effective cooperation on international development, whatever the outcome of the difficult negotiations.”
