Christian Aid says Lebanese people “face the same fate” as Gaza civilians

With hundreds of civilians killed and no let-up in Israeli attacks, the international development agency Christian Aid says its partners responding on the ground fear the huge number of civilians killed in Gaza will be replicated in southern Lebanon.

Julie Mehigan Head of Asia, Middle East & Europe for Christian Aid said: “This is a terrifying time for Lebanon. People are in shock at the number of civilians killed, including 50 children. Nobody knows when the next Israeli air strike will happen or where will be hit.

“Our local partners in Lebanon have told us that after witnessing the failure to stop the huge numbers killed in Gaza that they fear that they will soon face the same fate.

“With huge numbers fleeing the south of Lebanon and making their way to Beirut and further north, Christian Aid and its local partners are looking to reallocate already over-stretched resources to help these new waves of displaced people.

“We will seek to support those arriving at shelters in need of food and essentials, as well as supporting emergency medical services and primary health centres at risk of being overwhelmed by the numbers injured."
